Week 6&7: The Space Between

Image
ONGOING PROCESS As part of the assessment, I created a connectable box which can be produced using the laser cutting machines in the maker space of UNSW. I wanted to offset certain links to make it have an interesting look. Overall this process of a simple and good way to learn how to navigate Fusion 360's interface. I took screenshots of varies steps of the process to document my experience. Making the object using Fusion 360 Making the object using Fusion 360 Using the align tool to create a flat layout of the object Top view of individual components Creating a drawing version of the design file Uploading pdf file into Adobe Illustrator Laying out all components into the appropriate space as instructed by Russel Lowe FINAL CARD MODEL Due to the current situation, we were unable to laser cut our Fusion 360 models. Therefore I was able to print the drawing and used tracing paper onto thin recycled cardboard to create a 3D object....

Week 6: Cardboard model

Image
ONGOING PROCESS Initial sketches to look further into details and more refined ideas such as feature walls and folding techniques which can resemble main components of the room. FINAL MODEL I wanted to keep this model extremely simple working with textures, folding techniques and combinations of various materials to give a specific look to the room. I decided to work with recycled cardboard and coloured paper as it was the only material I had which was strong enough to stand up and thick enough to initiate walls. I decided to use tracing paper to my advantage following my research and experimenting with it in my actual room with natural lighting. It is a good way to dim the light which would come through the window and create an interesting looking texture for the mirror wardrobe. Using human figures/models to showcase the size of the room I utilised folding techniques to create wall art/feature wall. I was inspired by current trends and themes. Detachab...

ONGOING PROCESS EXPERIENCING WITH DIFFERENT SHAPES AND FOLDING TECHNIQUES I made the decision to use skills learnt from online videos and websites and played around with creating folding modelling and a couple sketch models on my room. Folding and cutting  Folding and pinching FIRST SKETCH PAPER MODEL Folding different sized elements to show depth Cutting slots and lines to add the detail of the window. When used with light can show the window's ability to capture light and display interesting patterns on the floor. Using folding elements to make spaces between the wall and the ceiling to show the space in the room Adding slots for doorways to let in light from the corridor Preliminary sketches to document the size of the room and main features of the room. FINAL PAPER MODEL After creating my first paper sketch model I decided to refine my ideas to a simple, clean model which better represents my room. I wanted...

Week 7: Fusion 360 Initials of Name

Image
FUSION 360 MAKING 3D SHAPES This 3D model was made by following the online tutorials given to us on the model.  As I do not have a middle name I used the last letter of my first name. S YLVI A   M USEL FUSION 360 ADDING MATERIAL EFFECTS ONTO 3D MODEL I decided to use a matte black oxide coating with a red tint as the main texture. I liked the matte, chrome finish as it reflects the light nicely but also reflects both red and black. I added small elements of enamel glossy paint to contrast the matte finish with glossy details. I used polished stainless steel material to outline the letters 'S' and 'M' to make the letters stand out and therefore become more presentable. The reason for choosing this colour palette as red reflects courage, passion and excitement. Being my first year for university I have a look of excitement towards learning and trying new things. The colour of red encapsulates both my readiness to take on new tasks and my fear ...

Week 7: Refined model

Image
ONGOING PROCESS Overall I was inspired by modern, industrial-themed homes and living spaces which used simple colours and shades with a combination of natural landforms such as rock faces and trees.  Images which I used as inspiration for my designs. Week 6: TUE 24/03/2020 During this day I decided that I wanted to work with a range of different materials to show the consumer my desire of making a modern small living space with some complex details and simple details to add interesting features, textures and light sources. I began by purchases large paddle pop sticks to use as the floor. I decided to cut the ends of the sticks and laying them down on the flat surface. I decided to use packaging foam as the base as it's lightweight and stable to hold the entire model together. Week 6: WED 25/03/2020 During this day I worked on deciding which ceiling design I wanted in my final model. I wanted to create one which can direct light through its folds,...
