Week 5&6: Research and Experimenting

RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTING WITH NATURAL LIGHTING

To understand how different materials reflect or deflect light or adjust its intensity, I decided to capture photos of natural light which exists in the actual space I will be modelling/communicating. This is a good way to test materials which can be used both in the existing environment and model to communicate my ideas to the consumer. Using real photos from the actual space displays accurate information to show the consumer.
(Photos were taken between 18:10-18:20)

Light is able to be redirected too light up the wall below the window.
(This is done by the reflective mirror on the opposite side of the room)

RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTING WITH FOLDING AND PAPER MODELLING

All paper models and folding were inspired by features in modern houses (from images, magazines and pinterest).

Feature Wall Ideas

Simple cutting and inserting of organic shapes

Cutting and making insertions on paper which is curved to direct light in an interesting way.

Cutting triangle shapes in paper and folded to reveal another colour.

Cutting small details into the paper with various cutting techniques

Creating triangle shapes to add wall features
Brainstorming of ideas and annotating each design

EXPERIMENTING WITH FOLDING, CUTTING OF PAPER AND ITS RESPONSE TO LIGHT

I decided to cut rough lines into a piece of paper to see how it can direct light from a different angle. This would resemble the light moving along during a day. I also wanted to see how curved paper can also direct the light.
